Kevin Scanlon focuses his practice in business, real estate, probate and personal injury litigation. He works closely with both national and local financial institutions, defending them in matters that can arise in connection with defaulted loans, foreclosures, evictions and REO sales. He also advocates for victims of serious personal injuries in complex medical negligence and premises liability cases.

Mr. Scanlon is Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Wakefield Public Library, and he serves as Chairman of  the Human Rights Committee of the Barry Price Center in Newton. He is also the past Co-Chair of the Massachusetts Bar Association's General Practice - Solo and Small Firm Section (2008-09).

Prior to joining Barron & Stadfeld, Mr. Scanlon served as a law clerk for the Justices of the Massachusetts Superior Court. While attending law school, he was the Editor-in-Chief of the New England Law Review.

Select Cases

  • Successful defense of consumer financial services company against borrower claiming failure to give notice of foreclosure and sale of property at below commercially reasonable value
     
  • Successful defense of consumer financial services company in state court suit filed by borrower alleging violations of Massachusetts Consumer Protection Statutes regarding the  refinance of a mortgage. The borrower subsequently filed bankruptcy, and Mr. Scanlon was successful in obtaining relief from automatic stay for his client after an evidentiary hearing.
     
  • $3,400,000 settlement for medical negligence case where delay of delivery after mother and child displayed fetal distress resulted in child born with cerebral palsy
     
  • $1,500,000 settlement in medical negligence where 38-year old mother of five was misdiagnosed, resulting in death by bleeding while in surgery
     
  • $750,000 settlement for premises liability case where falling boxes resulted in a severe and disabling back injury
