What is the difference between a real estate salesperson and a real estate broker?
In order to sell real estate, one must be licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. That involves completion of education and the passing of a test. The initial step is to complete 24 hours of education at one of the approved real estate schools by the Real Estate Board. You must then pass a test. That entitles a person to act as a salesperson for a real estate broker. A salesperson must work for a real estate broker for at least one year before they can move on to obtain their license as a real estate broker.
To become a licensed broker, one must complete 30 hours of education, in addition to the 24 hours of schooling for the salesperson's license, and also take a test which is administered by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons.
